About Phonickids

Our History

Phonickids was established in 2007 by Shainaz Jussa, a Professional Jolly Phonics Trainer and with over 15 years of experience on the Jolly Phonics Methodology. Prior to starting Phonickids, Shainaz trained on Phonics at a local playschool in Mumbai and prior to that, volunteered as a Phonics teacher at two schools in the UK. Phonickids focuses on helping Kindergarten children read English, improve their vocabulary, memory, spelling and overall language skills, resulting in building the child’s overall personality and setting a strong foundation for a brighter & fulfilling future. Reading, if developed between the ages of 3-4 years, results into a firm skill enabling the child to enjoy reading and develop it into a habit.

Reading acquired during this stage enhances the child’s ability to grasp and assimilate knowledge much faster, a skill essential to excel in academics later on in life. Phonickids was the first institution in India that started offering courses primarily on practicing the Phonics technique. This has enabled Phonickids to demonstrate a very high success rate in achieving its aim of ensuring that every Phonickids student is able to read significantly better compared to what they would have learnt in their day-schools.

Phonics, although is part of the curriculum of a few public and private schools in India, is not taught correctly and hence majority of kids continue to develop their reading habits much later.

Phonickids is headquartered in Goregaon, Mumbai and has multiple branches across Mumbai. Since its inception, Phonickids has trained over 8,000 children to Read, Spell and Comprehend well in English. Phonickids has also trained over 2,000 Pre-primary Teachers and several mothers who wanted to learn Phonics to teach their own children.

Many parents of the Phonickids trained kids have confirmed that their child has developed good English speaking, social interactions and spelling skills resulting in high self-esteem & self-confidence.

Shainaz Jussa
  • With over 10 years of experience on Jolly Phonics, Shainaz runs her own Phonics training centre in Mumbai, India, called "Phonickids", a fully Women Oriented Business. Since her foray into Phonics, Shainaz has taught 3,500+ students till date. She has established two Phonickids Franchisee Centres in Mumbai. Apart from significant change in the reading habits and overall personality, some of her students have also excelled in 'Spell Bee' national & international spelling competitions. Shainaz also conducts Phonics 'Teacher Training Workshops' and has trained several teachers so far.
  • Shainaz Jussa has been teaching Phonics using Jolly Learning methodology for about 10 years. Shainaz is "Professional Jolly Phonics Trainer" certified by Jolly Learning Ltd, UK. Shainaz has volunteered as a teacher in two schools (Martins Wood and Long Meadow in Stevenage), in the UK in 2002.
  • Represented India at Jolly Global Trainer's Conference, held in London in July 2012, where representatives from 40 countries were invited
  • She conducted a not-for-profit Teacher Training workshop for over 40 Teachers of the Aga Khan Foundation, Mumbai
  • She successfully completed training of primary Teachers at Deutsche Schule Bombay International (DSB), an elite German school in Mumbai
  • She conducted a not-for-profit Teacher Training workshop for over 40 Teachers of the Aga Khan Foundation, Mumbai
  • She was invited to address Parents on 'Benefits of Phonics' at Nashik and Palghar
  • She has trained Teachers from reputed schools like Singapore International, Oberoi International, Dr.Pillai Global Academy and Teachers from Hyderabad, Pune, Dubai, Surat apart from Mumbai.
  • Shainaz has Masters in History; a University Topper at SNDT 1991-93 batch. Shainaz enjoys fitness oriented activities and has been participating in the 21 KM Standard Chartered Bank Mumbai Marathon for the last 5 years in a row. She has also done a 11,000 ft trek in the Himalayas. Shainaz has participated in three Car rallies in support of CanKids (NGO supporting kids with Cancer) and Lavasa Women's Rally. Shainaz supports NGOs like Akansha, CRY, Magic Bus and Doorstep.

Prachi Garg - Director

Prachi did her schooling from St. Patricks, Jodhpur, Ajmer and St. Angela, Jaipur (Sophia schools). She completed her Graduation from Maharani College, Jaipur in English Literature & Political Science. She also did her Costume Designing from Women Polytechnic, Jaipur.
