What is Phonics?

What we read on the printed page is sound. Though what we read appears as something we see, that writing has to be mentally transposed into what we say. Phonics combines these enabling reading the right way. Phonics enables proper pronunciation and spelling resulting in strong communication capabilities.

The conservative look-and-say method (A for Apple), enables the child to ‘read’ only those words that they have seen. The best time to introduce reading to a child is between the ages of 3 to 5 years, however this method is beneficial to older children as well as adults who need to develop good English reading, speaking and spelling skills.

What is Jolly Phonics?

Jolly Phonics is a fun and child centered approach to teaching literacy through Synthetic Phonics. With actions for each of the 42 letter sounds, this multi-sensory method is very motivating for children and teachers, who can see their students achieve.

Jolly Phonics methodology is owned & published by Jolly Learning Ltd. UK, founded by Christopher Jolly. Jolly Learning Ltd. was founded in 1987 and started selling the first of the Jolly Phonics products five years later. It uses the synthetic phonics method of teaching the letter sounds in a way that is fun and multi-sensory, enabling children to become fluent readers. The company now sells over 2 million publications each year and is used in over 100 countries around.
